Patients and relatives

Who does MOWA help?

The MOWA system is designed for patients with paralysis and spasms as well as muscular imbalances. These malfunctions can be congenital, but can also be caused by an illness or an accident. MOWA helps with the following diagnoses:
  • Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS)
  • Apoplexy (stroke)
  • Motor Neuropathy
  • Multiple sclerosis
  • Muscular dystrophy
  • Muscular atrophy (e.g. Charcot-Marie-Tooth)
  • Paralysis of the peroneus (e.g. after accidents or surgical complications)
  • Polio and post-polio syndrome
  • Craniocerebral trauma (SHT)
  • Spina bifida
  • Spondylopathies
  • Cerebral Palsy
  • Forefoot amputations
Those affected by the often associated weakness of dorsiflexion of the foot and paralysis can no longer walk automatically. Often their foot does not touch down with the heel first, but with the forefoot or the entire sole of the foot. As a result, the foot can no longer roll naturally and swing forward.

Also ideal for children and young people

MOWA takes special account of the special needs of children and young people. Orthoses are designed to compensate for physical dysfunctions of the locomotor system caused by neuromuscular diseases. These malfunctions are different for every child. In addition, there is the changing gait pattern and physical growth. The latter is accompanied by increasing gravity, which children have to fight against. This makes perfect support during movement all the more important. Thanks to small sizes, MOWA accompanies your child from the very first steps.

MOWA for a more natural gait pattern

The therapy aims at a more natural gait pattern so that you can return to your everyday life as quickly as possible. In the special case of multiple sclerosis, your independence should be maintained as long as possible. A quick supply of aids is important in any case. Foot orthoses can be used to correct or counteract paralysis or spasms. They position the foot in such a way that the tip of the foot is held in place and also straighten your posture. In this way you walk dynamically and more safely.

MOWA goes further

MOWA orthoses go through a digital process, are embedded in an intelligent system and can do more than conventional orthoses. Thanks to their modular design, they can be adapted exactly to your individual gait pattern and physical dimensions. The orthosis is light as a feather and comfortable to wear. With the help of our specially developed algorithm, we follow the principle: as little as possible and as much as necessary. Sensors and 3D scanners replace the costly and uncomfortable plaster cast. The measurement is therefore relaxed and comfortable for you and the orthopaedic technician. 3D printing and modular components optimize production. For faster progress, the MOWA orthosis is also embedded in a demanding therapy.

Short distances and quick answers thanks to MOWA platform

The same applies to orthoses as to clothing: They should look good and be individual. Simply create your favourite design with your MOWA technician.
With an additional motion sensor and a corresponding app, your orthosis will even become smart in the future. It will then be possible to track your mobility or a medically prescribed therapy programme. As a registered user of our cloud-based platform, you can not only create your favourite design or make your orthosis smart. Just like your MOWA orthopaedic technician, doctor and therapist, you can view your data at any time and communicate with everyone involved. This interdisciplinary collaboration makes successful therapy possible.
